Q&A: June 2007

SPOILER ALERT!

The following Q&As contain information regarding events in Dawn of Destiny. Use discretion in deciding whether or not you want to read on.

Q: With the focus on Scott Remington as the protagonist in this storyline and your dedication to him as your main character, what is the likelihood of any other popular characters getting their own spin-off series or maybe mini-feature?

A: Excellent question. While the future of character spin-offs is uncertain (but by no means out of the question), I do take special care to make each character three-dimensional. For example, Jayden spends a great deal of time in book one coming out of his shell. Likewise, Becan and David have had several segments dedicated to them. Everyone has a story, if you look hard enough.

There is a danger, however, in giving characters their own spin-off books. While Becan (a fan favorite) is an excellent quirky comic relief, an entire story that revolves around him may not be the most engaging for the reader. At the moment, my primary focus is on the main series.

Q: [I was wondering] why some sub-stories were left untouched, like when Jayden overheard the officers discussing the promotions. What was the purpose of that? What did he do with the info?

A: Very good question and observation. Outwardly, it might appear as if that scene (or similar scenes) serve no purpose. But sometimes the purpose isn’t always tied into the progression of the plot. Sometimes, their focus is on character development.

Take a moment to reread that section, and other conversations of similar nature. Then ask yourself what they reveal, not necessarily about the situation, but about the characters themselves.

Q: When does Thoor get hit by friendly fire?

A: While that question obviously wasn’t meant to be answered literally, it does bring up an important issue. Will anyone challenge Thoor’s authority? If so, who? Will he ever be bested? It’s obvious from book one that not everyone is fond of the ‘Terror’.
