Q&A: April 2007

I apologize for the delay in getting this posted. The Easter holidays have kept the family busy. Now, on with the questions...

Q: How far ahead in the series are you?

A: I essentially have the entire series mapped out, though mostly in my head. I'm always cautious about writing things down. Oftentimes it's futile anyway, as minor changes tend to be made along the way, changes that often break out of my original outlines. Sometimes it's funny to back and see how I thought things would turn out. I go by a basic "A to Z" formula, but I allow myself a lot of room to bend. You can't put a bridle on inspiration when it hits.

But literally, I'm on book three, and roughly about 20,000 words into it. It's going to be one big chunk of reading. It should be the longest out of the first three. Key word being "should" there.

Q: Will you continue to gather information from specialists in the areas you're writing in?

A: Absolutely. That's something that I don't plan to change. Whether it's climate, or dialect, or geography, I want to hit as many nails on the head as I can. To do otherwise would be plain lazy. I also am a big fan of the truth, when it comes to portraying the world. It's usually more fascinating than fiction.

Q: Will you continue with Scott Remington's story throughout the series?

A: I definitely plan to follow Scott's story throughout the series, but don't let that fool you into thinking that he's safe. Trust me when I say, no one is guaranteed to survive this entire ordeal. Nonetheless, every serious series needs a lead figure. Scott is undoubtedly mine.
